AIHS FAQ
How did MOIS start?
The Beginning
MOIS was developed and field-tested in 1990 by Dr. Bill Clifford when he realized
there was a real need for software to assist in running a medical office, improve
patient care and organize medical information so that it could be used in a
meaningful way. In those early years, colleagues watched Bill’s successes and
asked if they could utilize the software he built. Bill unselfishly offered it
out, and it continued to grow and be enhanced – working in busy, real-life,
practice settings. Bill put all of his energy and brilliance into product
development with input from Physicians and various health care workers.
The success of the uptake of the product was inspirational. A better level of
patient care was emerging because users were putting into practice MOIS. A
community of users was being formed and demand for the product was flourishing.
Horsepower – How do we make the ship go faster?
There came a point when Bill realized that there needed to be an organization
behind MOIS.
It was simple.
The client demand for MOIS was surpassing his ability to supply quality and
friendly service. Bill seeked guidance from various health care, legal,
technological and business professionals to determine how to achieve a value
driven organization. They landed on a Not-for Profit Society model with roots
firmly planted on working as a co-operative. In keeping with the Not-for-Profit
spirit of the project, Bill donated MOIS to the Society for One Dollar!
When was Applied Informatics for Health Society (AIHS) started?
AIHS was incorporated in Prince George, British Columbia as a Not-for-Profit
Society in 2007.
How is AIHS governed?
There is a hard-working, volunteer Board of Directors which provides strategic
direction and advice to the Society. The skill set on the Board is specific in
nature and includes Physicians, Lawyers, Accountants, Business Leaders, Technology
and Medical Office Professionals. Honourary Directors exist to further bestow
knowledge to the organization as needed.
What professionals exist at AIHS?
AIHS employs professionals that are experienced in software architecture and
development, technical support, end-user training and business management.
Our users (Physicians, Office Managers, Medical Office Assistants, Health Care
Technicians) are another arm of knowledge that we tap into on a continuous basis
as we co-operatively work at adding features.
What can AIHS offer a client?
The Society provides support to clients throughout British Columbia who take
up our products and services. This includes end user software installation
and start-up implementations for practices joining our community. We can come
to you two ways - virtually or in person at your organizations site.
ISO Certified – I can’t believe it.
Yes it’s true. We are ISO 13485 certified. In fact - we are the only ISO
certified health software company in existence in Canada.
How do you keep your product pricing so affordable?
As you may have noticed, AIHS isn't like your regular medical software
organization. For one thing, we have no branches – our overhead is low and
because our business model is Not-for-Profit, we're able to pass those savings
on to you. We keep our pricing model simple. No extra charges for
additional functionality. No funding paperwork. No additional costs
to import or export patient demographic data. No fees for additional
support staff user log-ins. We believe in service, not service charges.
But that's just the start.
The co-operative model ensures we are re-investing in our cause. The Society
is comprised of people who are united in our humble, can-do mentality and
our drive to deliver results for our clients. And whatever we do,
we're always connected to the bigger picture - helping you so
that better patient care transpires.
What is your commitment to Client satisfaction?
AIHS is committed to Client satisfaction. We understand that this commitment
extends long after you purchase our products or services. Whether
it's making certain the privacy of your information is maintained,
or resolving any specific concerns you may have, AIHS has processes
in place to assure you remain satisfied.
